About this tool
A PDF often contains more than you are allowed — or need — to send. A portal asks for only the degree page of a long transcript file, a bank wants the first three pages of a statement, or a teacher needs one chapter from a scanned book. Split PDF lets you pull exactly the pages you choose out of a document and save them as a clean new PDF, in your browser, with no upload. Pages are copied exactly as they are, so text, stamps and signatures keep their original quality — nothing is re-photographed or blurred.
You can work two ways. Type page ranges such as 1-3, 5, 8-10 and press the extract button to receive one new PDF containing just those pages, in order. Or press the second button to download every page as its own separate single-page PDF — handy when a site insists on one file per document or you need to share pages with different people.
Everything runs locally with the pdf-lib library in your browser. Your documents — certificates, statements, medical or legal papers — are never uploaded to a server, so there is no stranger's computer holding a copy. The original file on your device is never changed; the tool only ever creates new files for you to download.
How to use it
- Drop your PDF onto the panel above, or click it to choose the file. Wait for the message that tells you how many pages it has.
- Type the pages you want, using commas and dashes — for example 1-3, 5, 8-10 means pages 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 9 and 10.
- Press 'Extract these pages into one PDF' and download the new file, or use the second button if you want every page as its own separate PDF.
- Open the downloaded file and check the pages are the ones you intended before you submit or send it.
Where it is used
- Applicants extracting just the required certificate pages from a combined scanned dossier.
- Students pulling one chapter or one assignment out of a large scanned book or notes file.
- Office workers sending only the relevant pages of a report, statement or invoice set.
- Anyone separating a merged family document bundle back into individual files.
Tips for a better result
Count pages the way the PDF reader shows them, starting at 1 for the first page — cover pages and blank scanner pages count too, and they are the most common reason an extraction grabs the wrong sheet. If your ranges produce a bigger file than expected, remember that scanned pages carry heavy images; run the result through our Compress PDF tool afterwards if a portal's size limit is tight. Finally, keep your original complete PDF safe: an extracted file is a copy for one purpose, never a replacement for the full document.
