About this tool
WebP is the image format Google built for the web, and it earns its reputation: the same photo stored as WebP is commonly 25 to 35 percent smaller than the JPG version at the same visible quality, which is why websites love it — pages load faster and visitors use less data. This converter works in both directions. Turn JPG and PNG images into WebP to slim down a website, a blog or an online shop, or turn WebP images back into JPG or PNG when a form, an editor or an older program refuses to accept them.
That second direction matters more than people expect. Phones and chat apps increasingly save and share images as WebP, and then a government portal, a college form or a photo printer rejects the file with no explanation. Converting the WebP to a plain JPG here — in your browser, with nothing uploaded — is the ten-second fix.
Quality is kept high by default and transparent areas stay transparent in WebP and PNG output; only JPG output places transparency on white, as JPG cannot store transparency at all. Your image is processed on your own device from start to finish, so private photos and documents are never sent to a server.
How to use it
- Drop your image onto the panel above, or click it to choose a JPG, PNG or WebP file.
- Choose the output format — WebP for the smallest file, JPG for maximum compatibility, PNG for lossless quality.
- Press 'Convert image', compare sizes, preview the result, then press the download button.
Where it is used
- Website and blog owners shrinking page images so pages load faster on mobile data.
- Fixing WebP downloads and chat images that a form, portal or editor will not accept.
- Online sellers preparing lighter product photos for shops and marketplaces.
- Anyone emailing or sharing photos where every megabyte of data counts.
Tips for a better result
WebP is ideal for the web but not yet universal: keep a JPG copy of anything you may need to print, upload to a government portal or open in old software. If a converted file comes out larger than the original, you probably converted into PNG — lossless storage costs size, and that is normal. And if your real target is a form with an exact KB limit, conversion alone will not hit it; finish with our Compress Image tool, which targets a precise size.
